CARL SCHURICHT


A conductor Carl Schuricht died on Saturday morning near Vevey, Switzerland, where he retired.

Carl Schuricht was the last among the generation of the great conductors, Bruno Walter and Furtwaengler. He was born in Dantzig on July 3, 1880. He studied under Max Reger in Berlin, and he had been a general music director of Wiesbaden from 1922 to 1944 before settling in Switzerland.
He made international tours frequently and recorded numerous discs, particulary all of the Beethoven's symphonies with the Société des concerts du Conservatoire. His performance had a life and a lyricism that broke forth.
